Gelati to Giraffes- Our year away
Adam is running his 3-day teacher training conference this week with the help of a lovely Pembroke teacher from Oz (Gary) and some St Jude's teachers. It is reportedly going very well with lots of energy, enthusiasm and networking. They have had 15-20 people attending which is an enormous relief given many were travelling home for christmas.
Our wretched car overheats every 2 days & has been to the "fundi" (mechanic) 3 times now. We are continually promised that we will be given a different car "tomorrow"...but tomorrow never seems to come. Have had to cancel a trip to Maasai-land that was supposed to have been on Tues and our safari plans for the weekend as we still don't have the 4wd- urrg. Its very hard to rent one at short notice at xmas. Hope to go on safari Boxing Day instead.... if santa brings us the long awaiting car!! We'll have to see whether we've been naughty or nice!
Adam got his uni results yesterday...distinctions for both subjects!! He's thrilled.
The kids are great & have made close friends with 2 Tanzanian boys whose dad works in the gardens here. They play for hours together & I have never seen Z&Z share so well! I think the older boy who is 6, Stanley , thinks zoe is his girlfriend! OMG...its starting already! She is blissfully innocent of all his "moves". He keeps wanting to take her behind the tree or under the table. Adam is so stressed about it & keeps hovering about making sure he doesn't try & kiss her or something! What will he be like when she's a teenager!? I'm not working much this week as have Z and Z whilst Adam is running the conference. We're making the most of the lovely playgrounds at St Judes whilst the local kids are on holidays. Poor Zac though... he wanted to go on the "big kid swings" (ie without the back supports). He was doing really well too till he decided to let go of one hand to point at something. He tried to save himself but grazed all the side of his face on the gravel. Little trooper didn't let it beat him though and after being patched up got right back on- this time holding tight with BOTH hands! I had a 15 min "negotiaton" with a policeman today who pulled me over and then got in our car wanting me to pay a fine or drive together to the police station. He claimed I had run a red light (...it was actually blank so you couldnt tell what the colour was). I'm not sure how, but I eventually got out of it without even a bribe. Phew! Very intimidating though to have him sit in the car with just me and the little ones. Gary (Pembroke teacher) is great to chat to, full of interesting travel stories and wonderful with the kids so its fun having him as our neighbour. Counting down to christmas.... 5 sleeps to go!
