It was animal central on our safari weekend out to Tarangire National Park. We tried driving ourselves & had close encounters with zebra, giraffe, elephants, buffalo, wildebeast & lions! It was wonderful apart from getting attacked by stinging tsetse flies...ouch! Elephants everywhere, saw them run & trumpet, with babies, saw lions mating & after killing a wildebeast. The kids amazed us, happily spending 8 or more hours in the car per day. Had trouble convincing them to not hang out the windows when we were less than 15 m from a lion & lioness. The park was full of magnificent old baobab trees, some 20m in diameter. Bravely exited the car to crawl inside one that had been hollowed out and used in the in past as a shelter by poachers. We stayed in a gorgeous lodge inside the park that is unfenced so you need to be escorted from the restaurant to your bungalow once it gets dark. We thought it was mostly talk till the following morning an elephant & baby calmly strolled right past our door ....within meters! We had the dung dump to prove it!
