Gelati to Giraffes- Our year away
Wow, wow, wow!.... We just got back from the most amazing trip to swim with whale sharks! They are the biggest fish if the world- hence the term whale in their name. They are grey-blue with beautiful white spots, 6-20m and completely harmless, just sucking up plankton. We tag teamed jumping in to swim them whilst the other person looked after Z & Z. Zac slept through almost three-quarters of it but Zoe had a ball helping spot for them and telling us to hurry up & jump in! We got to swim with about 6 different ones!! They were so close we had to back away sometimes to avoid touching them!
They had beautiful tiny, yellow fish swimming around their lips & big fish hanging off their sides. It was incredible! The water was beautiful and warm & we had a traditional wooden sail boat (but also with a motor) so we motored out & sailed back. Seas a bit rough and poor Adam was a bit green about the gills at one point but Zoe & Zac thought it was like a ride at the show & would giggle & get exited at all the big waves (they were nice & safe...don't worry grandparents!). They are beautiful creatures & we were very happy to find a company (Kitu Kiblu) with good ethics & a code of conduct. Many other companies don't as there are no regulations here unfortunately. The walk back from the boat was also beautiful as at low tide, the shallows were full of colourful starfish...orange, red, green, blue....kids loooved it! Still pinching ourselves about what we have just seen. What a finale for our year away!
