The last days in Arusha have flown!
My birthday was lovely. I finshed work early and we went to lunch with Adam, the kids and our lovely volunteer friends, Jake, Maebh and Gary at the beautiful Shanga restaurant. I had been wanting to go for months and we were spoilt with perfect sunny weather. It started with drinks on the colourful cushioned couches on the lawns with the monkeys tearing about and Zac and Zoe in hot pursuit. We then had a delicious buffet meal with all sorts of yummy Tanzanian foods and sweets. All the glasses and lights were hand blown and the placemats hand beaded by people with disabilities.
New years eve was my last day of work. It had been flat out as I wanted to try and get everyone's splints made, exercises taught and equiptment ordered in case no one else had time to finish it. It was so hard to say goodbye to all the beautiful little Plaster House kids we'd worked with although I think most didnt understand in my bad Swahili that I wasn't coming back as they kept answering "see you tomorrow". I was so torn about having to leave one little girl with burns to 33% of her body as because she had left the centre, I knew no one would be able to follow her up. Her future will be a very hard one.
New Year's Eve was spent at a fun dinner with friends but left at 930pm. Gosh its hard to say goodbye all the time. Emotional day farewelling all. Looking forward to coming home & saying hello instead! Fly tomorrow to Dar es Salam for a night then on a tiny little plane to Mafia Island for 5 nights and our 10 year wedding annivesary!
