Next day it was onto the next set of caves - a set of Buddhist caves at Ajanta.We left the hotel a 6:55 - thought we would get breakfast on the road - waited for the bus into town - supposed to be frequent - didn't show for 40 minutes.Go to the bus station - changed buses and straight on to Ajanta - still no breakfast - Fran is getting anxious!After 3 hours, the bus dropped at a cross roads where you had to get special tourist buses to the caves.We decided to eat after we had seen the caves as there were no restaurants around.

The caves themselves were spectacular - lots of very elaborate painting which data back to 200 BC. (Speaking to an army major later he said that he had visited the caves 40 years ago and about 80% had been lost to decay and vandalism - they are quite something now so they must have been spectacular then.)Finally we got lunch but it was too hot to eat so we just shared a fixed meal of Veg curry.

We then got another bus to Jalgoan (after a little tuk tuk to next village where the buses stopped).This was the driver from hell - he seemed to have a death wish - overtaking into oncoming traffic, ignoring people and goats in road although he did slow down marginally for cows.After 2 hours we got to Jalgoan, then a tuk tuk to the train station.We hada 2 hour wait for the train.It arrived 1 hour late.Fran was reluctant to leave the station so we thought we would eat on the train.

It arrived 1 hour late and we were sharing a 6 berth compartment with 2 Swiss guys and an Indian how didn't speak once.Because it was late we could not get any food on the train - Fran now thinks this is a conspiracy not to feed her.The Swiss guys had a problem as they were going to Bhopal but there was a problem with the track and it was diverted so wasn't going there.They had to get up (with half the carriage it seemed) to change trains at 1:30 am.We finally got to Satna after 14 hours on the train - some of which we did sleep through.Then, another bus through the national park (saw monkeys but no tigers) to Khajuraho.
