After a quick taxi ride, found our hotel which was modern and OK.We picked a place to eat and started off walking down the road - not a good idea as it was dark and full of potholes and my torch was in my rucksack.Got a cycle rickshaw (Lucky the driver) who couldn't do enough for the 20p ride.
Up at 5:00 to see the Taj at dawn - Lucky didn't show so grabbed a tuk-tuk and just made it in time. The Taj at this time was spectacular - different shades of pink as the sun came up.It was also good to see it without huge crowds. Then nipped off for breakfast on a roof top café with a view overlooking the Taj - Fran was really taken with it.
Then it was a quick ride over to the Fort - a big Moghul palace which is also worth seeing. After this we took a cycle rickshaw to have a look at the bazaar (Fran's knee playing up again). The guy couldn't get us both up the hill so he offloaded part of his load (i.e. me) to his mate - a little bit embarrassing!
From here we went to the baby Taj - another mausoleum built earlier but in the same style as the Taj - very peaceful and quite beautiful with nobody else there.
Next day it was off to Fatapur Sikri, a town built in the 16th Century but quickly abandoned due to lack of water.A long wait for a bus a bumpy ride so we were there in the middle of the day - the place is similar to the fort in Agra but with a very large mosque (copy of Mecca) alongside it.Back for dinner at the rooftop place to see sun go down over the Taj.
Next day it is an early start for the train to Delhi.
