Arrived at a station in south of city so we had a long ride through the new part of Delhi into Old Delhi where our hotel was.The contrast is quite marked, New Delhi with colonial architecture and broad streets with trees and parks - Old Delhi with all the chaos that is typical of India - cows, rickshaws, old buses and lots of people everywhere.Spent the afternoon sorting out the train journeys in the booking office - they have a special one here for foreigners that works well.
Next day we went to the Red Fort - at least we tried to.The first driver took us to a travel agency (to sell us a tour), got out and found another one - no the red fort is closed today - B*****T - - got another one who took us there. The outside of the place is impressive though it is similar but not as good as Agra inside.
Very hot and Fran's knee playing up again so stopped for an ice cream - I was sold this sundae which turned out to be huge and very colourful - all for 80Rps (one pound).
Then went on to the mosque - largest in India and worth seeing although Fran has decided she doesn't like mosques.I climbed up the minaret - where you have amazing views over the fort and the old city.Fran stays behind and gets chatted up by this Indian.
Next day we did a bit of shopping in New Delhi and took a ride to see the old fort - mostly ruins but in a nice park with lots of green parrots in it.Then on to Humuyan's tomb - another really spectacular place. The Moghuls seem to spend a lot of money building tombs - the architecture is good but seems a waste!
Next day is a rest day as we have a night train to Udaipur so decide to catch up on domestics.
