Arriving at the train station where we should have got off at if we had been on the train about 4:30, the sky was still pitch black. I can honestly say that was the worst coach journey I've been on. We took seats at a 24 hour cafe and was tucking into breakfast by about five o'clock. The transport to the island was changed so we would arrive in Koh Phangan earlier! However we still had a 2 hour drive in a coach to Don Sok Pier.
We boarded our ferry which was a car transporter ferry and took our seats at the front of the boat, we climbed up a ladder in front of the captain and put out legs over the railings. This boat must have been OLD, it was all bashed in and rusty. Watching the day go buy, as we sailed slowly past Koh Samui and then arriving at our home for the next couple of night, Koh Phangan.
Once at Koh Phangan, we waited a short while for our transport to the hotel. Originally we were told that we have to get a car to a place, in the north, then a long tail boat the rest of the way, as there are no roads to Bottle Beach were we we're staying. We were in the pick up about 45mins, thinking where the hell is our driver taking us. Going up and down some crazy dirt track roads... & then we could see the sea. We had actually driven directly to Bottle Beach. On a road that we were told wasn't there.
I am staying in hut D4, which is a small garden view bungalow, just 1 minute walk away from the amazing bottle beach. Not many people are staying here at the moment; so it's very quite- which to be honest is really nice. Some of the tourist boats arrive during the day, but once they have left- perfect! Eating lunch at our resort restaurant, I had a really nice vegetarian burger. Then took my position on the beach, relaxed. sunbathing, and reading my book- which I'm really enjoying. The water was like a bath, so warm, and shallow, you had to go out quite far to be unable to reach the sand. The time went by so quickly, and before I knew it the sun had disappeared over the jungle mountains to the west, and it was time to get ready for the evening. We had a group meal and talked about the plan of action over the next couple of days. A load of us had booked on the snorkelling day trip with waterfall! It was then time to have a few drinks and enjoy the warm evening. The beers and cocktails were flowing all night, and asking our waiter Dean for a surprise cocktail paid off, as it was strong, but good. Dean then had a bit of a jamming session, and we all had a bit of a sing to oasis & Bob Marley.
Then it was time for drinking games, we moved up to a different beach bar, and ordered the special cocktail again, this time it looked like antifreeze, but still tasty. We started playing the 6's game- and then 21. It was a great night. We end the night by watching a couple of the guys form the bar that were showing there skills at the flame/fire acts on the beach, spinning, and twisting the flame lit batons! All I kept thinking was I really want a go! A great day on the remote location of bottle beach, still don't know how it got its name.!
