Waking up early, I was leaving Noosa today and heading to Brisbane. I have a nice early greyhound that departs at 8:13. It's like German time. I saw Rebecca again from the Whitsunday trip, because we are doing the same route I'm sure that one be the last time we bump into each other. I was packed, showered and had eaten breakfast before 7:30 meaning I had 30 minutes to kill. I made use of the free wifi. Booked a couple more greyhounds and some hostels. The journey was about 4 hours in total, but 1 hour we were at the Matilda service station I had some lunch and a Rolo ice cream. They are the best ice creams. Once back on the coach the driver put a film on, it was an old movie with a young Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio. I can't remember the name but it was easy watching.
When I arrived at Brisbane I called the hostel to say I had arrived at the bus station and a pick up would be about 40 minutes. I had a cheeky KFC before it arrived. Not sure what's up with the KFC here but it's no way as good as back home. Driving to the hostel it felt like it was miles out of the city centre, in fact it was right next to chinatown. Why do all major cities have a Chinatown? I checked in to bunk, my room wasn't ready so I dumped my bags and headed down Ann Street into the heart of Brisbane. Looking at it, it's like any other city I have been too. Skyscrapers, retail shops and a coffee shop on ever corner. I walked down through the Queens Street shopping centre, of course I got a couple of things- I'm struggling to get everything in my rucksack now! It was so warm the sun shining however every time the buildings block out the sun it got so cold. But I'm still walking around in a vest and shorts. Don't think it will last much longer, I'll be in trousers and my coat!
I walked down to the river as I wanted to do a river tour but they didn't seem to do it from the pier I was at. Instead I jumped on the City Cat, up the river to the university and then back down to the stop closet to the hostel. I only had a short walk back to Bunk. I booked the Australian Zoo with the tour desk. I have also been advised that the Castlemaine XXXX brewery tour was really good, I found out the last tour was at 4pm. It was only 3:30 so I decided to try and make it. It was located the other side of Brisbane but I could get a train to the station Milton which was 2 minutes around the corner. I ran down to the Valley train station. It took me 5 minutes to work out the platform was on the ground floor of the shopping centre. I got my ticket and ran down the stairs to the platform. There was 4 platforms and I was on 3 and 4. Asked a member of staff which train I need to get, she pointed to platform 2 where a train was sitting there. "That's the train to Mil..." Before she had time to finish her sentence, I was running up the stairs as I needed to cross over. Running up 3 flights of stairs, then down the other side... My foot was on the last step at the train pulled out of the station. I was so pissed off. I only had 30 minutes to get to the brewery and the next train departed in 10 minutes. I sat and waited, thinking I can still make it. But I would be cutting it really fine. My train arrived and I onboard I just clock watched... As we arrived into Milton it was 3:57pm. I still had a good chance of making the tour. I ran out of the station right outside was a duel carriage way. I could only cross by going down to the traffic lights, I could see the brewery on the other side of the road. I jogged down to the lights, which I had just missed... And waited for what felt like ever for the little green man to appear. As I crossed the road it was 4:01pm. I'm sure they would give a couple of minutes grace. I arrived at the main entrance, more bloody stairs to the tour desk and shop. I managed to get out "One adult ticket for the tour!". The bloke looked at his watch and said I was to late, it's already left. I asked, if it was ok to catch the tour up, as I was only minutes late... His reply "No". I was pissed off at this guy for being a jobs worth, and angry with my self for missing the train. If only I had checked before going down to the platform in the first place. Thank god the bar was open. I sat had a pint of XXXX gold and calmed down. I was taking to the barmaid and she said on Wednesday's they do a 6:30 tour. I thought I would be able to do this after the Zoo tomorrow. There is still chance I can do the tour! My beer lasted minutes and I retuned back to the hostel the same way I came from. The ticket I had was still valid, and the railway staff didn't say anything when they checked it.
When back at the hostel they were giving away free meal vouchers for people staying that night. Which allowed you to get a meal between 6.30 and 7.30. As you can imagine it was so busy with the backpackers wanting for their free food. I lined up, there is a reason the food was free, because no one in there right mind would have paid for it. It was horrible. I hardly ate any of mine, and just left it. I don't think I would have even given this food to Kobi.
I was still hungry and walked to Chinatown to have something to eat. I'm sure your all thinking something Asian, Chinese? Thai? No... I had Mc Donald's! It was alright I just wanted something cheap and easy. It had been a long day, and even though I didn't make the brewery in time it was still good. At least ilI know where to go tomorrow. It was midnight before I went to bed. Had a few drinks, but got a long day at the Zoo tomorrow so don't want to be tired.
