I woke up with a massive smile plastered to my face, after the skydive yesterday, I was still on a high I did it, and that I wasn't some worried screaming mess!! It was amazing. I had to get up and check out. Showered, packed and sat in reception waiting for the free transport back up to the greyhound stop. Before I left, I watched my skydive DVD. It was so funny. I then watched it with Jenn from reception, who wanted to watch it. I was at the greyhound stop about an hour early, but just relaxed in the sun. It was about a 4 hour bus journey today and I would end up in Townsville, I'm only staying here for a short amount of time, so I need to fit everything in!
We stopped at a service station, it's was nothing like a UK service station. It had a great view of the sea, and a nice small cafe. We had about 30 minutes to wait before heading on to Townsville.
Got to the Civic Guest Hostel about 2, after getting the free mini van! I didn't have lots planned, but the receptionist gave me loads of good idea's. I got changed into a vest, shorts and my thongs! (Australian for flip flops!). I started my afternoon by walking the goat track up to the top of Castle Hill. It was a massive rock that has a great view point overlooking the city. I start the climb, to start with it was easy! Things started to get difficult when the road turned into track. Walking in thongs isn't easy! I was so sweaty, and hot. I had to keep stopping every 10 minutes to get my breath back. All the locals were power walking in their sports trainers, saying G-day as they speed pass me. I could see that they look down at my feet and thinking fool!! Lol. The views were really good, you could see everything, the beach, my hostel, and the bus station that I got off at in the marina. It took me about 30 minutes to get to the top. I was so glad to find a water fountain there! As my fanta I was carrying was really hot by now. I stayed up there about 30 minutes and took a slow walk down. Didn't want to brake my thongs! People were really friendly saying hello as they walk passed. I had cooled down a lot in the breeze on the way down and decided to walk down the famous Flinders Street. Located a book shop, as I needed to by the last hunger games 3rd book (Even if I has to pay 3 x as much!). I needed to get my hair cut, so I found a barbers. But it was packed so I didn't bother. Walking down Flinders there was loads of shops, bars, restaurants and old buildings. I headed to the beach, I walked along the front looking at the island across the water. It was a really warm evening, and id been walking about 4 hours! I decided to head back to the hostel. Shower, and have a chilled evening. I was sharing a room with 2 girls from the UK, and 3 people from somewhere in Scandinavia. I can't remember which country. I know it wasn't Sweden but one of the others.
I was sitting in reception using the free wifi, the first hostel in Australia that has offered this! When Kelly and Rebecca the girls from my dorm wondered if I fancied joining them for dinner! It was really nice they offered. I'd not got any plans so I took them up on the offer. We walked back down to the main town. Talking about what we have been up to, travelling, working etc. Then the funniest conversation came up... KANGAROOS! They were telling me about working on a farm, and at night, you can't always see them, the kangaroos! Which results in road kill. You should of seen my face, I thought poor kangaroos. Kelly has managed to hit 5 on one journey. Kangaroos are massive! (That's why the greyhound buses have massive girlls on the front!). I guess if one jumps infront of the car there is not a lot you can do about it, I guess all you can do is inspect the damage the next morning.
We headed to an Irish bar, that was playing the Australian vs Scotland rugby game - it was being played in Newcaslte NSW. Rebecca was from Scotland so we all supported them. They are the United Kingdom as well. To be honest most of the support in the bar were Scotland fans! The beer was going down nicely, and we waited for the food line to go down before we ordered. The food was tasty. After a couple more drinks it was time for me to head back, as my taxi is picking me up at 06:00. I said goodbye to the girls who has planned a night on the town. I know your thinking lightweight, but it has been a long day!
When I arrived back to the hostel, I uses the wifi for a little bit, then got into bed, I didn't here the girls come in. I must have been dead to the world. It was a really good night... When travelling you meet so many great people! Thank god for Facebook.
