Hello,
well what a few days we have had! Yesterday we became the proud owners of a camper we ahve named Peggy! She is lovely! we Went to the supermarket and picked up lots of pasta and rice etc for lunches and dinner on the road and headed north on the Captain Cook Highway, towards Cape Tribulation.
Cape Tribulation is the place where Captain Cook stepped foot in Oz when his ship hit reef! It is also the place where Steve Irwin died from a Sting Ray barb through his chest, he only died from this as human instinct is to pull the barb out and so he couldnt survive. We are in the heart of the oldest rainforest in the world and we think the only rainforest that meets the sea.
On our way winding through the rainforest road we stopped at a discovery centre where we did boardwalks and a tower walk up into the canopy of the rainforest, it was beautiful. We then found a camp site, it is called Paradise found and is right next to the beach! there s also a free pool table so it would be rude not to brush up on the skills. It is extremely humid here and so sleeping last night was quite horrific as it was so stuffy but we are in paradise so wont complain. Right now there is thunder and lightning as we are in the wet season, apparently it is an extremely dry wet season at the moment.
Today we set off towards the daintree river for an informative eco cruise. We saw 3 crocs and had all the wildlife and vegetation explained to us, it was well worth the money. We then headed to a beach and a boardwalk for lunch. We have seen so much wildlife it is ridiculous, huge spiders one of which G saw was poisonous, brush turkeys, huge beetles, giant toads and giant stick insects. On the side of the road we were also very lucky to see the endangered Cassowary bird, it is a little bit like an ostrich and they are only found here, quite beautiful. Oh and i also saw an ullyses butterly (think thats how you spell it) It was gorgeous bright blue oh and a kingfisher.
This afternoon we have spend at Cape Tribulation beach - very picturesque as it is low season we had it all to ourselves!!
Tomorrow we are going to start our journey south!!

Granma So pleased that you are having such a good time despite the weather. It should improve as you move down and get less humid.Dont fancy the spiders, ugh. When you reach Fraser island you will pass near to Maryborough where some Tadley Ramptons emigrated to late 18th Century. Apparently loads still live in the area so you cant get away from them even in Oz. lol. Love you lots .Safe Journey. Granma.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
