G'day Mates!
We are now here in Oz it is amazing! The view from the plane when we landed was immense, mountains and sea etc and a tiny sity in the middle! The plane journey was not the greatest, we had alot of turbulence between singapore and darwin even meaning that we had to keep our seatbelts on as the plane felt like we were falling - Not a fun experience. However the food was quite yum and i got a blow up neck pillow and blanket to keep! After a quick stop over we travelled onwards to Cairns, I saw the most amazing sunrise from the plane window!
We are now at a hostel called Asylum which is apparently the party hostel but we got free dinner, brekkie, internet, movies, tea and coffee etc!!
The weather here is very hot and humid as it is monsoon season and we are in the middle of a storm with rain and lightning which is good as our sleep should be alot cooler! Today we wondered around Cairns which for a city is very small and very spread out but beautifully quiet! We cant swim in the sea at the moment because of jellyfish but they have a man-made lagoon with sand etc which we used to sool down it was really pretty! it was around 35degrees today - very hot and sweaty!
We also passed a bit of time looking at the crazy food in the supermarket! They have mars bars here which are half the fat - crazy! However it is quite expensive here! Tomorrow we pick up our camper van - very exciting. We are then going to head slightly up the coast to Cape Tribulation. We are hopefully going to save quite a bit of money by cooking for ourselves in the camper which means more money to spend on tours etc. Talking of money Wez is much happier as he has sorted his card out - the bank had decided to block it!!
Think i will have to stop doing all my ozzie sheila impressions as it is getting on Wez's nerves although i find it highly amusing, cant wait to actually meet a bruce or a sheila! And the water does go in the opposite direction - amazing!
Oh on a sadder note the immigration people confiscated some of our lovely souvenirs from Thailand! We had a beautiful picture frame from our trek made out of elephant dung and a card but he hacked it up! Apparently i was meant to feel better about the fact he let me keep the little elephant symbol from the front! That annoyed me straight away - they are far too overprotective about what you can and cant bring into the country, they have sniffer dogs and allsorts all because of some stupid seeds in the paper! I asked if i could send it home and he said it would cost $45 - what a joke!
Night all!

Fiona The Ag. people will be even stricter coming into NZ - what you may not realise is that Oz & NZ are very reliant on ag. exports, and things like dung, seeds, wood, feathers can bring in weeds or bugs or diseases that can cause millions of dollars damage to export crops - sorry to be so boring!!!! Hope your friendship survives six weeks in a campervan!!! Make sure that you have "time out" in a hostel every now and then!@#! Isn't it an amazing world out there.
