We arrived to the campsite at 4ish it was so hot, we had an airport located at the back of the campsite thank god they stop flying at night. After dinner we went to a pool party, it was so much fun there were so many Aussie travellers and they put the - "I come from the land down under" song, everyone was so patriotic.
That night was the first appearance of Rae, Brad, and Custards Punjabi (a song from the guru) dance on top of the tables, it was so cool everyone got up and started doing the dance. We were so drunk on our duty free Vodka from Andora - doing drink runs back to the tent.
The next day we headed into Venice. What a wonderful sight - canals everywhere, brightly coloured buildings and old cobbled stoned streets. It was like stepping back into the past, you could actually imagine how they use to live.
As we made our way to Saint Marks square Rae pointed out that the shop owners would change the directions of the arrows so you walk pass their shops doggie italians - you could be walking through the streets for hours and not find your way around. We did a walking tour through Venice - stopping at St. Marks square it was amazing from the old pictures, nothing has changed, it was stunningly romantic, from there we went to watch a glass blowing demonstration, amazing Venician glass where. Next we went to a lace making demonstration.
We then went on a gondola ride it was so romantic, and the drivers were so cute!! The city is so beautiful, so much tradition and culture! Next we made our way to St. Marks Basilica, such a grand old church!! The inside was so amazing I cant describe it in words. Next we made our way down to the Chiesa di Santra Maria Della Salute - huge dome shaped building with a beautiful marble interior.
After the Salute, Sarah and I went to the Doges Palace such a grand piece of architecture, there were paintings all over the ceilings, huge rooms, ball rooms, all the rooms were painted from floor and the ceilings which depicted how life was in the 9 century!! We also gained entry into the old prison, by walking over the Bridge of Sighs. This bridge evokes romantic images because of its association with Casanova a native of Venice who was incarcerated there (also Madonna shot her film clip like a virgin there).
Overall, Venice was an enchanting romantic city such beauty in the buildings, seemed somewhat ghost like, as there were not many locals just the ones working there.
