This morning we headed downtown again to check out some more sights of D.C. We parked the car and took the subway into the city centre. From there we wandered past the White House and saw the secret service guys on the roof, which was nuts, then we continued on to the Capitol Supreme Court Building - the building which houses the Senate and House chambers. We took a guided tour of the Capitol which was awesome. The dome of the building is made of cast iron and weighs around 9,000,000 pounds!
While we were exploring the Capitol, we ran into another fellow Australian that we recognized as the Australian Trade Minister (and ex-opposition leader) - Simon Crean. We don't normally do photos with fans, but since he asked so nicely we had to oblige.
After visiting Capitol Hill, it was lunch time, so we made our way to what Rob calls his secret D.C. dining location. I don't want to give anything away, but it's located in the Basement of the Longworth House Office Building across the street from the Capitol Building and is known as the Longworth Food Court. Good selections there by the way!
After lunch we had a look at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, which was really cool, and then headed back to catch up with Kimie for a hot drink before heading north out of D.C. toward Harrisburg, PA.
