This morning we arrived at Southern Adventist University (SAU) and attended Collegedale Church, which has three church services: Adoration, a traditional service at 9am and 10.15am, and Renewal, a student-led church service at 11.45am. We made it to the 11.45am service and it was pretty packed out. Afterwards we also found out that there was another contemporary service called Connect held in the Collegedale Academy auditorium at 11.30am…too many choices!…maybe next time!
We had some refreshments in the foyer after the service, and then took a 25min drive west of Collegedale to explore Chattanooga - SAU's nearest major city. Chattanooga is located on Chickamauga Lake and the Tennessee River and lies between the ridge-and-valley portion of the Appalachian Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau. Its official nickname is the "Scenic City", so we figured it was worth checking out.
Lookout Mountain is a top spot where you can get a really good view of the city and the greater Chattanooga area, and you can get there by either driving up or taking the cable car up the incline railway. We chose the driving option and while we were there we also visited Ruby Falls. More than 1120 ft below the surface is Ruby Falls, which is America's deepest cave and largest underground waterfall accessible to the public. Throughout the limestone cave was the distinctive stalactites, stalagmites, and columns, etc., but the waterfall itself was awesome! They jazzed it up with lights (see photos) and music, which was a little corny, but nevertheless it was still pretty spectacular.
Later in the evening we met up with Natalie (SAU recruiter), her boyfriend and two other friends for dinner at a place called Sawasdee Thai Restaurant in Chattanooga. After we'd all had our fill we followed Natalie back to her place in Collegedale where she had offered us a place to stay the night.
