Last night we stayed in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It wasn't a big drive from OKC, so it gave us a chance to catch up on some washing and get things in check for the fair this morning.
The first school to kick off our Southwest Tour was Ozark Adventist Academy in Gentry, AR (about an hour from Fayetteville). It's still fairly cool up this way, with plenty of snow about, so very pretty, but I'm keen to head south! The school visit went well and the kids were all super excited too.
Our next schools are in the Texas area of Fort Worth/Dallas, and getting there meant we drive right through OKC again. On the way we saw the H&H Gun Range, so we HAD to stop in! We were able to try out a few uniquely American firearms and had a blast.
First we shot the GLOCK 17 9mm - used by law enforcement, then we tried our hand at a custom Wilson-Combat 1911 .45 ACP (a variation of the 1911 adopted by the US Army)...awesome (expensive) pistol right there! After that we decided to mix it up and shoot straight arm with a .357 MAGNUM revolver! Serious kick...haha. Then we finished off in the rifle range with the 7.62 M14 - formally the United Sates Rifle. It was the standard issue US rifle until 1970, but is now used as a ceremonial rifle.
After we had had our fun we had to get on our way down to Keene, TX to stay with Marland (Southwestern University recruiter) and his wife Katie. After we were greeted by their 2 super-excited dogs, Marland took us for a tour of Southwestern Adventist University and then cruised through Fort Worth and on down to the historic Stockyards district...very cool spot. We will be back sometime.
