One of Ólavsøka greatest events are the boat races held from the far to the near side of the bay. There are smaller crews of 6 and larger crews of 8. Generally there are about a dozen boats in each race and quite often the boats are divided into either female or male crews.
My abnb host said the crews train competitively for a good portion of the year and have training weight goals along with time trials.
