Btw, this is the lighthouse and what remains of a fortress in Torshavn. Here's a long history of occupiers in the FO. For instance, during WWII, the British government occupied the islands when Germany invaded Norway and Denmark.

And, last but not least, the Norse Gods may have again decided to take pity on this Montana boy. After 5 days o f5 mile round trips to the bus station, my hosts may have found a friend of a friend who will rent a car for 7 days. No idea of condition yet, 300 danish kroner per day.
