Sand patterns. There are small, white, quartzy kinds of flecks in the black rock. And, some of the white might be from broken sea shells. There are a lot of mussel shells strewn about.

The two pillars are called 'the giant' and 'the witch' from old mythology. They tried to steal the island and drag it to Iceland, but the sun came up and turned them to stone. Getting stoned in the Faroes has its consequences.
