Rain, rain, Go away. Its like being back in Britain! I've just got to Brisbane and its still raining, just as it was in Byron Bay and Surfer's Paradise. Ah well because of the naff weather I have done basically nothing all week. I did though attempt to surf the other day when I was in Byron Bay. When I say attempt, I really mean fell flat on my arse for about 2 hours looking like an idiot but we have to start somewhere.
Byron Bay was nice, albeit a lot more commericalised than your average beach town. It would help if it had maybe a few more bars open after 12 as everyone packs into "Cheeky Monkeys" and gets ripped off. A bit like going to your rubbish local nightclub back home because you don't want to go further a field. Its also weird how similar the scenery is. Just go a few km's inshore and its practically like being back home with all the hills and greenery.
I also ended up getting Jim Happy Bus to Nimbim, which was an awsome day trip. We ended up at this enormous waterfall about 150ft up but as usual when we go to somewhere that is good, I always leave my camera back in the dorm.
Friday was Surfer's Paradise. Its basically like Blackpool meets contemporary living on the Costa Del Sol. Like Bournemouth with money but still the same people. Anyway it just through it down all day but the hostel where I stayed had enormous leather sofas and a 50" TV with a surround sound system and free dvd's, so I had a full day of watching Swordfish, Lock Stock and Austin Powers. Well it beats surfing in the rain.
Brisbane is really nice. A lot of people have slagged it off but it looks like a really cool place to live. I hope the weathers better in the summer though. And I still cant get over the fact that bottle shops close at like 9PM. God I miss Britiain's 24 hour drinking so much! Got my sailing and Fraser Island 4x4 coming up soon so that should be good laugh - just please be sunny.
