I'm here in Oz last! Nearly at the end of my flying visit of Perth and its been enjoyable. Arrived on Monday and headed straight to the shops for some clothes. Aimed to fit in with the local crowd and just bought all surf orientated gear. Got a little local tour of the area, around the marina and the beach etc but just mainly took it easy with a beer sat in the sun in about 22C heat. Not bad for a autumn day is it!
Tuesday had a little more pace to it when I headed to King's Park where there were some brilliant views of the city. I had a clear morning and so you could see for miles. I was burning like a b**** though. Then we headed off to Freemantle, little coastal town south of Perth with a beach stop en route to cool down (its a hard life sat in a car taking in the views I can tell you). For some reason Australians dont use the pub to socialise but seem entertain more in their own homes and I was gagging for a freshly poured pint. Then we went to this weird yet great place called Little Creatures for a drink and a bite to eat. Its a pub.... set in a actual working brewery! The beer came striaght from one vat into another giant one straight behind the bar. Can't say thats not fresh. Had a little wander around the marina and headed back were it became cold and cloudy on the beach.
The following day was the best yet - Rottnest Island. People have split opinion on the place but mine is simple... ABSOLUTELY F**KING BRILLIANT! I would come to Perth again just for that. Its like an isolated island just off Perth's shores and basically its just roads and roads for you to cycle all over. No cars - apart from the occasional tour bus - and it just leads you completely off the baron track to dozens and dozens of picturesque coral bays. It was everything I had wanted to do since I booked my trip. Just tiny little bays completely isolated where you had to climb down the cliffs to get to. The sea was so clear and the marine life just swims around you. It was just utopia. Picture postcard Australia. Look at some of the pics and you'll know what I mean. I was snorkling for the first time and loved it, albeit crap myself when I saw a great big jellyfish a few feet from my face but I was told they were harmless. Cycling around again I saw some seals on the rocks and when I was waiting for the boat some dolphins swam right up to the rocks where I got a few pictures. On top of that it was clear sunny day at about 24C. Just great.
I'm in Perth city (if you can call it a city) for another day before I fly out tomorrow afternoon to Adelaide. Booked a tour of the Great Ocean Road from Ade to Melbs for next week - which I'm looking forward to as the weather is meant to be sunny. Really enjoying it so far -just cant get my head round it being dark at 5.30PM though.
