Ubirr - Next morning we left Gunlom to head further into Kakadu, hitting the 4000km mark for the trip!
We arrived at ‘Cooinda’ about lunchtime, set up, ate and restocked for an afternoon of driving and sightseeing. Being Sunday, the township of Jabiru was very quiet and we were unable to grab any groceries. We kept heading on to Cahills crossing, the border into Arhnem Land, where we got afternoon tea at the Border store then watched the crocs emerge and disappear from the murky water like weird and freaky logs. After a while we left there and got to Ubirr, a stunning area full of Aboriginal rock art. The art is gorgeous and extremely interesting. Once we had finished the art ‘loop’ we (and many others) climbed our way up the magnificent black-rock formations to watch the sun set across the wide, green plains and wetlands. There were fires around so lots of smoke blew across the western horizon which made the sunset somewhat muted, but still very pretty.
