It was bittersweet to be leaving Kakadu but we were all excited to be heading to Darwin. We got to the outskirts about lunchtime and ate at the “Windows to the Wetlands”, a fantastic, free, hands-on, interactive area all about the animals and land in the north. We left there to head to the Adelaide River to go on a croc jumping cruise. We went with the same company as before as it was small and personal. We enjoyed it very much, it was both exciting and terrifying, seeing such enormous crocs so close!! Definitely gets the heart pumping! After leaving there we needed a quick afternoon drink (to calm our nerves) at the Humpty Doo Hotel!
Arriving in Darwin that afternoon felt awesome. We were back! Something we’d all been looking forward to for four years! We set up our van, unbelievably, on almost the same, if not the exact same site, as last time, at Howard Springs Big 4. The boys took to the jumping pillow straight away, meeting some other kids and enjoying playing for the afternoon. It was wonderful to have some service at last and see and speak to some special friends and family that night.
Next day we couldn’t wait to get into Darwin proper and head to the Wave Pool. It’s so much fun! After a couple of hours we left and had lunch nearby at a gorgeous bar overlooking the Wave pool and waterfront area.
Over the next few days we used the time to go to the two free waterparks, shop for necessary items, relax, blog and do washing, washing and more washing, lol!
We also enjoyed Crocosaurus Cove, a great way to see and learn about crocs. Some of the residents were huuuuuuge!! The highlight for the boys was going ‘fishing for crocs’, feeding the little ones with a rod and some meat. They are so fast!
Leaving Darwin was sad, and we already can’t wait to return again one day.
I just love the feel, and strangely, the smell, of the place.
