So today we were leaving McCarthy so we had our breakfast and then dropped our bags off for the shuttle and then we walked to the footbridge to collect our bags and take them over the bridge to the bus. We then started the 60 mile bumpy ride out of McCarthy towards Chitina. On the way we stopped at a little coffee shed so people could buy coffee and then we stopped at a couple of points further along to look at view and wooden bridge. I also heard a pika but did not see it unfortunately.
From here we continued our journey to Tangle Lakes stopping on the way at the Wrangell St Elias visitor centre to look at Salmon wheels. There were apparently 3 bears hanging around the park so most of car park and the trails and areas around the centre were closed off. So we went to look at the centre and although with didn't see any bears we did see the rangers with their guns.
From here we drove to Copper Valley where we went to the supermarket to grab some lunch and then continued our journey to Tangle Lakes. There is a chance that I may have slept for portions of the journey even though it was very bumpy in parts!!
On our way to Tangle Lakes we saw some eagles and to add to this as we were driving along I spotted a moose in the water so we stopped and looked at the moose in the water and then as we continued we spotted a mountain goat in the distance.
When we arrived in Tangle Lakes a little place in the middle of nowhere on the Denali highway we checked in and chilled out before dinner. Then at dinner we saw a beaver in the water. So after dinner I walked down to the lake and watched the beaver in the water before heading to bed.
(PS - Tangle Lakes is an interesting place and the owners are characters. It could quite easily have been a location for a horror film when you think about it as in hindsight it's all a little creepy!!)
