So today I got and dressed and went for a walk by the lake to see if I could see any more beavers. As I was walking to the lake I met Karina so we went together. As we walked around the spit I saw a beaver swimming across the lake and as I was taking photos of him eating some plants Karina spotted another one swimming towards us. So we stood and watched beavers for a while before we moved on and headed back to our cabins ready for our journey to Denali.
We had literally driven 5 minutes when Mary spotted a moose so we turned around only to discover there were actually 2 moose sitting in between the undergrowth. So we watched and photographed them for a while before continuing our journey.
We stopped along the way for a 2 hour hike along the ridge to see the glaciers and valleys. The walk was lovely despite a bit muddy and wet. When we started it was pouring with rain but by the time we got to our destination stopping to take photographs of squirrels and the view along the way the weather had cleared up and the sun was shining on the mountains. So we turned around and headed back towards the bus back around the muddy puddles. We then had a quick snack before getting back in the van and driving to Maclaren for a drink stop.
From here we continued our 110 mile journey along the bumpy Denali highway to Brushkana Creek Campsite where we had our lunch. On the way to here I spotted another moose in the water but it was in the distance so we didn't stop.
At lunch we were hopeful to see bears but unfortunately no wildlife spotting but it was a very picturesque lunch stop by the river if nothing else.
After lunch we continued our journey to the end of the Denali Highway to the real road of the Parks Highway where we found our cabins.
There was a bit of a mix up with our booking but it all worked out in our favour and meant we got an upgrade of cabins with ensuite bathrooms so we were all very excited by this! We also got to see lots of squirrels while we were waiting.
So we found our cabins had a quick chat about what we could expect over the next couple of days including our super early start of a 5am departure tomorrow!!
We then settled in to our cabins and went for an early dinner so we could get ourselves ready for our early start.
Dinner was at the local pizza place and man the pizzas were massive!! While we waited for our pizzas a group of us went and played a traditional beanbag game where you had to try and get the beanbag into the hole or on the board and the first team to get 21 points wins. My team won the game but it was a good laugh and a great way to wait for pizza!
We then made our way through the biggest pizzas in the world before going to attempt another game which my team lost at 21 20!
From dinner we made our lunch ready for tomorrow and then had an early night so we could be up and out by 4.55am!!
