FARFRUMWURKEN
We were glad to see Cabo San Lucas again. We grabbed a pedi-cab just outside the ship and headed to the ME Resort. Our driver was somewhat overweight Mexican with very little English – little did he know about the workout of his life was just around the corner and for 120 peso to boot. Additionally, the ME Resort is not exactly around the corner either but it's on the other side of town. Carrying over 400lbs. in 90 degree heat, with virtually no air in his rear tire – let the games begin. Our focus was to see exactly how much damage occurred during the Odile rampage just a couple of weeks earlier. They’ve done an amazing job getting this tourist spot back into shape. It seems that signs and palm trees were the biggest hit. The local Hooters had been transformed into OOT R. I guess that there are good things that come from a storm like Odile, everywhere we looked there were workmen, both young and old fixing walls, windows, and transporting palms to the dump – it must be good for the local economy to get things back into shape. When we arrived at ME there is a very steep hill up to the front door – we told Jose that we would walk up – he looked very thankful to say the lease. We were met at the front door by the concierge who told us "cerrado (closed) senior" so we walked next door to the Puerto Bonito Resort and Spa. Actually, it was another nice spot to have lunch and a couple of beers by the ocean. While the Wi-Fi is a little slow in some port stops, it sure beats the ship pricing. It ultimately does the job and even allows for a couple of SKYPE calls back home to get updates.
Deb did an amazing job on her first Dos Equis XX beer with lime ever. She’s trying to substitute beer for iced drinks while she’s here in Central and South America. While it’s an acquired taste, she still hasn’t got it quite yet, but at least she’s trying.
We shed the shoes and walked down to dip our toes in ocean – so nice and refreshing but the waves managed to soak our shorts well above the knees. No injuries on this stop – must have got away lucky. We managed to come home with a few thousand Peso’s from our last trip to Ajijic so this stop was basically free for us and we still have a bit left for Chiapas in a couple of days.
From here we have two sea days en route to Puerto Chiapas, which is located in the south of Mexico just north of Guatemala. It’s already Day SEVEN of the cruise; we can’t believe that a week has elapsed since boarding in Vancouver. We’ve met a ton of people from all over the world – it’s really one of the great things about travel for us. We’re watching the sun go down through our window and getting ready for our 8:00 p.m. dinner in The Rotterdam Dining room tonight. All is well and thanks to all of you guys who are following our trials and tribulations throughout Latin America.
