FARFRUMWURKEN
Well today was our last full day here in Buenos Aires. Another gorgeous day. Bright sunny skies with warm temperatures. We really feel that we've settled in quite nicely here in the "Paris of the South". We've got a lay of the land, we can come and go pretty easy now either by walking or by transit if the need arises.
We hooked up with V&K early today and headed out to the Recoletta Cemetery. It's a big tourist draw here in BA, particularly because of the popularity of Evita I guess. You see, Eva Peron has her last condominium there. I think we were all a little surprised that it wasn't over the top. Just a straight 8'x10' model without all the glitz that she had when she was alive. I'm glad that I can say I was there.
So, so many of the mausoleums are over the top. Rows, rows and more rows with each dead guy trying to out due the previous dead guy. I've pointed out to Deb some of the features that I'd like to see in my personal model once we get back home - given that today she had so many opportunities to view the options that are available.
We lost two of good friends today. They took off today for 2 weeks in Orlando so Deb and I are really on our own now. I have to thank the inter-web. If it wasn't for Cruise Critic, Deb and I may never have had the opportunity of meeting and enjoying the company of two very great people. Thanks for the memories.
We stopped for lunch near the cemetery. There's a thing about portion size here in BA. Everything they serve you here is enormous. I ordered pasta and Deb ordered a "hamburgese complete" and both arrived our eyes popped. Way too much food. Tonight it's packing night. It's the time where we have to get scientific.
As I think you know if you'd been reading my blog, we just took the Sky Train to the port in Vancouver - no airlines involved. No overweight bags, no second bag charge - easy peasy. But now some 42 days and some 11,000 miles travelled, we're having to get on our first airplane tomorrow and we could be in trouble. Despite the fact that I've left about 20 pounds of clothing here in BA, I'm likely still overweight. How can that be possible. I wonder if vacuum packing is still an option ?
I digress. We've got a remise (private taxi) set up to take us to the Ezize Airport for our flight to Brazil tomorrow and a car is arranged to meet us at the airport - let's hope all goes well because we get into this massive city after dark tomorrow. I'll report further, but in the meantime, enjoy some of the pictures from our walk around the cemetery.
