FARFRUMWURKEN
It's Day 3 here in Buenos Aires. It must all have been hype. The pick pockets, the thieves, the need to really worry. We've seen nothing here at all. I was actually quite concerned, two senior citizens coming here to Buenos Aires that we might be taken advantage of. This is a city of 3 million people is all - there's trouble in every city this size. We have been very pleasantly surprised here in BA - it's really quite a great city.
Today we were back on the HOHO bus around the city. It really is a good way to get yourself acquainted with the hotspots and a general overview of the city and at a two-day/48 hour pass with a bottle of wine for $300AP per person (26US) there is not much of a better deal around.
We've had a nice lunch today near the big downtown mall (Galleria Pacifico) this afternoon and then hopped on one of the local city buses - a nice pregnant lady helped us with the fare because you need either exact change or one of their monthly swipe cards - so I paid her - she paid the swipe. There's not much we won't do anymore to get around - if it saves some needless walking - that's a good thing. The bus fare here in BA is about $0.35 cents - pretty cheap.
Our apartment has been great so another plus for us. It seems that our friends Vince & Karen, have had a little "bad experience" in their apartment so we're thankful that all is well here.
Tonight our concierge recommended that we go to La Olla De Felix (The Pot of Felix) for dinner. It was a very quaint 24-seat family restaurant about a 10 minute walk from the apartment. We're in a pretty good area here in Recolleta so we didn't get too concerned about heading out after dark at 8:00 p.m. for dinner. Dinner was fantastic and it was only 420AR$ or about $36.00US. When we arrived at just after 8:00 p.m. we were the first customers - moments later the place was packed - who knew. They kept the front door locked, so that any new customers had to be personally let in and one of the patrons had a little lap dog that he was feeding from his arms at the table - What a Country !
Tomorrow it's off to the cemetery here in Recoleta - it's high on the tourist list because of all the mausoleums spread throughout the property - we might even bump into Eva Peron. We leave Thursday a.m. for Rio (weather reports are calling for rain) so one last city to explore before our
adventure comes to an end.
