Hola from a very sunny Spain and two slightly red little burnt Brits !!
So, having moved on from the wet and very British Benicassim, we moved to the beautiful Sierra Espuna National Park, a great area for hiing, which we did and saw a herd of mountain goats on the way. James pitched the tent with a wonderful view of the mountains . . . .well for the first couple of nights and then a couple arrived with their caravan . . . it's always fun to watch the 'newbies' arrive and the guy was pacing out the pitch over and over so we wondered what was happening (we hadn't seen his humungous caravan at this point) and suddenly, there it was - about 3 foot from us, totally blocking our sun and our lovely view. I've put up the before and after view pictures for you to appreciate. So, after a lively bit of banter about ruining our view it turned out that they were a lovely couple and were staying at the site for a month - since we had planned to move on the next day we didn't mind too much especially when they invited us round for a few drinks that evening. Turned out to be a Coates classic evening, drinking everything we had left and finally leaving them at 2.45 am - so no moving on for us the next day ! We joined them again the next evening for a game of upword which is a bit like Scrabble, but not before a meal disaster . . . having planned to move on, we had no food left, never mind we thought - we'll eat in the local village before joining Ann and Paul again. Nope, restaurant closed so a trip to the local shop garnered some lamb chops (mmm. lamb) and some cous-cous. Or not. It was soup pasta, not cous-cous so dinner was 3 (very small and skinny) lamb chops each and pasta for the bin. Good diet though.
Finally, we did get to move on and headed to a camp site just outside Granada with a stunning view of the snow capped Sierra Nevada mountains. Yesterday we took the bus into Granada and went to the Alhambra Palace. I'd highly recommend Granada as a city break, the weather was glorious and it's a lovely city to wander around. We both really enjoyed the Palace and grounds especially the Moorish architecture and woodwork. As we walked back around the city, we were surrounded by lots of Spanish stag and hen do's all in fancy dress and great fun to watch, as well as some street flamenco (enough). Granada is one of the few remaining places where tapas is free with a drink so we visited a couple of places to enjoy this whilst watching all the crowds.
Today has been baking hot, we went for a walk into the local village and then onto another National Park to cool down in the pine trees and tomorrow we are gathering up our gold, bling and shell suits and heading to Marbella, babes :)
