Day 46 03/08/2013 (Harriet's1st Birthday) Carawine Gorge.
It became very windy again in the early hours of the morning. We were awake pre-dawn, and it was a lovely sunrise. We watched the birds over our morning cuppa and then after breakfast we went for a walk along the gorge as far as we could. This land is part of a cattle station and the owners make it available for camping because, so far, all those who camp here do so responsibly and take care of the area.
At times, there is obviously more water in the river, because there is a great deal of river gravel which we had to walk through in order to see a little bit more of the gorge.
On our return to camp we could see that some campers were leaving and others arriving. In fact our neighbours had moved to another spot further along the river which had just become vacant. So for the remainder of the morning we had a very quiet and relaxing time. From late morning onwards the camp spots were filling up. Some campers who we could hear, but not see, set up a generator, and for the rest of the day, until they switched it off at around 9pm, we unfortunately had to listen to the noise. A family with two boys, one aged 3 and one 9 months, camped in the next spot to us, in their caravan. They were very quiet!
By mid afternoon the wind had once again dropped and it became quite hot......a swim in the river was very refreshing.......and no need to worry about crocs!!!
In the very late afternoon I went for another walk, and this time I did see some kangaroos!!!
Just around sunset several more campers arrived......it's obviously a popular spot! We lit a campfire for our cooking. Then we sat around it, until it went out, chatting to some neighbouring campers. It was another very mild night.
