Day 23 11/06/2013 Charnley River Station.
We had time for a cooked breakfast this morning .......no packing up to do....it's great when we camp for more than one night! On this property there are several gorges and waterholes to visit and explore, and that is what we did today. I decided to drive; mainly to give Dave a break....he has done all the driving so far.....and also because we were not towing, so I knew that it would be an easier drive!
We left at 7.30am so that we could start off in the cooler part of the day. The first place we visited was called Donkey Springs. This was a series of very picturesque water holes and we had a dip in one of them. No-one else was there. The track was slow going, so we took our time and the next stop was at a lookout.....Mt Glemont.....we had our coffee here. Looking out over the surrounding countryside makes you realise just how remote this region is. Not a roof-top or any man-made structure as far as the eye could see. We then drove about 30 km to Grevillia Gorge. We could only average around 20kph so it took a while to get there! On the way we encountered a few wallabies; some dingoes, who DID stop for a photo-op this time, a bustard bird,(also captured by the camera), and several cattle who seemed to want to sit in the middle of the track!
There was a reasonably steep climb down to the gorge.....including a section with a ladder....but it was worth it. Once again we had an explore and a cooling dip.
We had the place to ourselves again.....there were some other visitors, but they were in the process of leaving as we arrived. Next stop was the Lily pond, with another steep climb. Dave had a dip; I just took photos. We returned to camp around 3.30pm after having had a thoroughly enjoyable day. We had a shower and relaxed (or wrote blogs!) till dinner time. Then it was early to bed! It doesn't feel as cool tonight.....and of course the stars are just magic again!
