San Juan del Sur is a vibrant beach town frequented by sunbathers and surfers. Lots of choice for sleeping and eating. We have booked three nights at the Sunset Hotel and manage to negotiate a free upgrade to the only room overlooking the promenade and long sweeping beach.
Lots of restaurants along beach front with a nice promenade back to our hotel at quiet end of town. There is a Christ the redeemer-like statue overlooking the town, not quite Rio de Janero but similar!!!
Small villages are dotted up and down the coast from San Juan and on one of our days, we share a lift with some Portugese and German surfers and visit Maderas for the day. The surf at Maderas is normally very good but not so good on the the day we are there so the surfers are a bit disappointed. We meet a Jordanian backpacker who has bought a labrador puppy in Mexico and they are now travelling together with one of his friends in VW camper. The wee dog now 13 weeks is very lively and everyone stops to speak to it. His owner plans to take him back to Jordan at the end of his travels though presently, he has no idea when that will be.
