We get tickets for the ferry $C50 (£1.37) each back to San Jorge. There are a lot of passengers crowding to get aboard but nobody is ever turned away from Nicaraguan transport. The vehicle section is full and all three decks are packed with passengers. We squeeze on to the top deck which has seating for 30. I stop counting passengers when I reach 60. Fortunately it is a smooth crossing and none of the two available life jackets to be shared by the top deck were required for service. We stopped for breakfast at the only restaurant open in San Jorge....one choice for breakfast scramled eggs and gallo pinto .. being no other options we took it.
When checking out bus times we find out that for only $10, we can get a taxi all the way to our destination the surfers' paradise of San Juan del Sur, one hour away on the Pacific Coast. The taxi is a much more luxurious option than the chicken bus we had planned on taking. The trip passes quickly and we practice our Spanish with our driver, Carlos Marrón ( Charlie Brown he translates with amusement). On route we stop a couple of times to pick up other passengers as is the normal with taxi journeys here.
