We found a tuk tuk driver to take us from kampot to kep about a 45 minute drive away only charging us 15$ for the whole way! Arriving in kep was very exciting for us both seeing the sea for the first time since we started our adventure was something we were both very much looking forward too! Arriving at the guesthouse was really nice very small only having 4 rooms ran by a Spanish lady and her French husband who were both very lovely when we arrived and gave us and the other couple staying here lots of information about kep!
We settled into our room and of course the thing that came first was food! After we were satisfied and fed we made our way to the beach for a swim in the sea which is something we have both been longing to do for so long so were both in our element, with the sea being so warm too it just felt like we were getting into a warm bath!!
In the evening we went for a walk along the road which is right next to the sea along the way greeted by about 15 or more monkeys just strolling along the road and eating people's leftover food (rubbish) and there was cute baby monkeys too holding on to their mummy's we both stood and watched for ages very fascinated while the locals just drove past thinking nothing of it! We then got to a spot where the women at the guesthouse mentioned you can see the sunset well and so we could!! We saw the most amazing sunset ever and no photos were doing it justice!!
Walking back to the hotel that night proved to be difficult as there are no street lights and with us having to go up a little lane having no torch wasn't the best idea!
The next day we had arranged to go to an island just off kep which you can se from the beach, just 8$ for the trip there and back spending the whole day on the island which is nick named rabbit island and not actually sure of its proper name! However the boat trip there and back was most deffinately not the highlight of the trip getting there and arriving home looking like we had swam across rather than got a boat across was not nice and the waves were endless splashing into the boat getting us drenched all the way through! Arriving at the island was like just being ditched somewhere not quite sure what to do at first but we followed everyone else and found our way to the beach, which at the start was so windy it was painful having the sand hit against your legs we had breakfast (which was not the nicest of food but we managed) and went to explore along the beach realising that this island was a little taster or paradise! We spent the day doing nothing as what else is there to do on an island where there is basically nothing other than a cafe! It was the nicest day ever spent mainly swimming in the sea and enjoying the sun! Oh and dom befriending every cat or dog that came into sight! Leaving the island was both sad for us both as it was the best place with the best views but that was shortly forgotten about as we had our horrible boat trip back! (Horrible for me but dom surprisingly not finding it too bad). We came home desperate for a shower and nap and then went out for dinner later in the evening!
Our final day in kep we thought it would be a good idea to walk around the national park as it being just up the road from us! So we got up early so we didn't get caught in the mid day heat and started our walk already sweating with it being 9 in the morning! The paths we went up were the steepest paths I ever seen (Dom claims he has seem steeper, not so sure!) both sweating probably the most we ever sweated so wasn't the nicest thing but we continued our walk through the forest soon coming up to the place we were aiming for 'sunset rock' where you had an amazing veiw of the whole of kep which made the walk worthwhile! Walking back was the tough bit all down hill both hungry, hot and maybe a little grumpy as thought we would go without breakfast, so when we made it back down the first tuk tuk we saw we got to take us to the town centre so we could eat!! Then coming home to shower finally, we both fell asleep for couple hours before making our way back out again being lazy and getting a tuk tuk we went to the crab market which is apparently a must see if you are in kep! It was very different with the smell of fish everywhere however not seeing any crab! Selling so many different types of fish, dom decided to try something which we don't know what it was but was not fish because had a claw, didn't look that nice to but I am getting used to watching dom eat all these different foods in front of me now! Getting a tuk tuk back we came home to spend the evening in, getting ready to move on to our next place tomorrow!
