So from kampot we booked yet another bus to our next destination Phnom Penh specifically asking not to be stuffed into a mini bus but guess what turned up!! Luckily wasn't as bad as we thought but was still very cramped!
We reached Phnom Penh In 3 or 4 hours and went straight to our hotel, the royal inn for the next 2 nights (we'd had enough of city's at this point so didn't want to spend too much time here) it was actually really nice and we had aircon for once!!
Anyways that evening we decided we'd go to the central market! A huge complex filled with pretty much anything you can imagine we spent a while haggling away and buying lots of shiny things! We had dinner in the hotel that night and emma was very excited when she found out they did jacket potatoes!
On our last real proper day we decided to hire a tuk tuk through the hotel to take us around the city to see all the sights. First on the list was the killing fields, after the most bumpy drive there we arrived! It was very eye opening and extremely sad the atrocities committed there and throughout Cambodia were sickening.
The next stop on our list was the genocide museum or s-21, it was once a school before being converted into a prison. We heard many of the Khmer Rouge survivor stories here and again me and emma both were left disgusted but again very eye opening, neither of us knew much about it at all before we'd got to Cambodia.
The stop after was the national museum which was interesting, however many of the exhibits were just copies from the museum in Siem reap which we'd already seen so we didn't stay too long.
Our last two stops were wat thom and the grand palace, both these places were beautiful. Me and Emma both have a love for temples but wat thom was the grandest we'd seen! There was gold covering everything in sight. The grand palace was having a lot of restoration done but it was still so amazing we managed to wander off and were swiftly turned around by an armed guard! Oops!
We headed back to the hotel and relaxed after our hectic day, it was easily one of the best of our travels so far.
