Vic found me Saturday night, curled up in Janes house. I was still nervous being in the compound especially when the sun sets but today is Wednesday and lets just say I haven't been getting butterflies during the day. I'm feeling alot better now, especially with Vic being around!
Anyway, Madam Brenda was fired Monday afternoon, so the headmasters asked if we could take care of Primary 1 until a new teacher is found. I've been with them before and what a challenge.
Vic has some lessons with P3, so she'll come between her lessons to help me out.
It's been hard work so far, mainly because of the language barrier getting in the way but I had a break through today and I was so happy!
So after a difficult morning of teaching them Literacy 1 (Science) talking about bad weather. 'Lots of rain can cause flooding. Let's draw a house under the water...'
We had Maths before lunch, Subtraction was the topic. I had the cubes out, showing them 4 and hiding 2 behind my back or using our fingers but that was difficult as they were using the mouths to touch their fingers, as if they had no sensation when moving them! I tried many techniques for different pupils but the best result was simply drawing small circles and the children crossing them off. It sounds so simple, but it was a long, frustrating lesson and by 1 o'clock everyone had been either high fived or hugged by me. Yes, they finally understood something I was saying! I set subtraction for their homework, so we'll see on Friday if they really did understand.
Tomorrow is Martyrs day, so a public holiday, meaning the day off school.
I'm going to Port Bell with Rory, to hopefully re-new our visas. We're not sure if the office will be open with it being a public holiday but it's only an hour way, so won't be too bad. If it's shut we're going to go again next week, as we've got until the 12th.
School on Friday and then we're all going out, as it will be our last group gathering on night out as Rosie and Georgia are leaving next week.
Can't believe the group is starting to break up, as it means reality for all of us, out time is nearly over... :(
Lots of Love x x x
