"Do you like Fish?" Felix asked me. "Erm well not really, but I want to like it" Regretting my answer as soon as I said it! "Okay we'll go out for dinner one night, I'll take you out for raw fish" Ahhh...
So tonight Felix, Beth and myself headed to a Japanese resturant just behind the apartment. We decided to sit on the chairs, than on cushions for the next several hours of eating and drinking. This was a 'eat/drink all you can' place, providing you could eat and drink it all, otherwise they would charge on top.
Around 10 dishes were first brought out, vegetarian and fish. "Okay Felix, take the lead and I'll copy" Adjusting my chopsticks between my fingers.
In a small dish we added Soya sauce and mixed in, what looked like green plastacine. It tasted like mustard, hot mustard!
I tried Shrimp, taking off the head but not realising I had to take the tail off too, until Felix saw it hanging out of my mouth "No, don't eat that bit!"
Clam, salmon, oysters, were only some of the many fishes we ate. Felix wasn't sure what they all were. One jelly textured fish, was Starfish. Apparently very expensive and not always easy to get, so I was glad I had the opportunity to of tried it.
I wasn't too keen on the sushi, as the seaweed it was wrapped in was so salty and the salmon eggs on top were too overpowering. I liked the rice though!
I had a seafood soup, soup being the wrong word to use for describing it. It was made from eggs and had the consitency of jelly. So egg-jelly with small oysters, chicken (seafood?) and another fish all mixed it. It certainly wasn't pleasing my tastebuds.
Fried Tofu, fried Sweetpotato were among the many vegetable dishes. So much just kept being brought over.
I lost count on how many beers we'd drank and lost count on what I'd actually eaten. All in all, I was terribly surprised by how much of the fish I did like. I tried everything that was on the table, apart from some egg fish, as I really didn't like the salmon eggs, so wasn't really fancying eating a fish with eggs squirting out of it!
After much discussion, I have decided to look into Buddism. Fate, karma, destiny, I think it would be so interesting. I'll let you know how things progress…
Arriving back, I found the lift broken, so for some reason decided to run all the way up to my floor! With all the beers, I thought I was invincible! Level 10 I sprung through my door, panting, trying to catch my breath, waterrrrr! I will walk next time!
I didn't make it to the hill, as I had left my notebook at school and Felix wasn't getting to school until 11:30, so for me it would have been too late to take down directions etc again, the day would of basically been gone!
So I planned my trip to Shanghai for New Years, looked up Orphanages that are close by and took a walk, finding a great 24hr fruit shop. I'm not sure why people would need it open 24 hours, but it could come in handy one day!
It ended up being bitterly cold, trying hard to snow, my ears were in agony. Probably a good thing I didn't make it up the hill afterall!
