Well here we are again on another gorgeous island off the East Coast...I know I know such a hard life!! We ended up here after arriving in Rockhampton (suped up ute capital of Australia!!) to break up our coach trip and kind of decided on the spur of the moment to spend a few days here. Anyway..turns out we made a good decision as this place is gorgeous!! You arrive on the ferry from Yepoon and step straight onto the beach (no jetty...so cool!!) and the soft (although boiling hot) sand that feels like flour. We also had amazing weather..leaving the rain of the Whitsundays far behind us...so Jo got some of that Aussie sun that she's been wanting to see! Our hostel was on the main strip right on the beach and was like some little hippy hideaway complete with hammocks and a really good relaxed vibe...we even had possums climb all over the roof again like we did on Magnetic Island. The main area of the island is where the ferry drops you off so all the shops and hostels are located along the mian beach which is this long stretch of sand that goes into this gorgeous turquoise blue sea so after exploring we sat on the beach watching the boats and all the people doing the watersports.
Now Great Keppel operates on Island Time which...if you've never heard of it is slightly more laid back than normal time...for example, most places have you check out at 10am..this hostel was 11, which we can all agree is a good thing! It also meant that the generator that lights the hostel was turned off at 10.30 so we got the nicest nights sleep in ages!!!! Also meant that we could get up really late the next day and so spent the day on one of the practically secluded beaches sunbathing and doing absolutely nothing...which I think was needed after all the running down the coast we've done. We spent our second evening watching the sun go down on the beach (so loads more sunset photos I'm afraid!!) and then just relaxed at the hostel. One thing about places like this is that at night you get to see the most amazing sky...you see so many stars like you never would at home...then it was another early night and up the next day to get ready to go home. Luckily the late check out (they should seriously promote island time everywhere else!!) meant that it was another lie-in day and meant that we got to spent the morning in the hammocks (I'm so investing in one of those when I get home!!) and then it was back to Rockhampton in the afternoon.
After the relaxing on Great Keppel its all go from now on with our Fraser Island tour from Hervey Bay next so am very excited about that one. Fraser's supposed to be amazing and yes it means that once again we're visting another island hehe so will feel you in on all the details when we have them. Hope all is good at home....love to you all. Em xxx
