The Weird & Wonderful Adventures of Emma, Len & Jo
Hey guys and girls...got Emma again I'm afraid..thought I'd actually better make a contribution instead of getting Lennie to update it every time so here I am!!
Spent yesterday morning walking around Alice trying to fill the few hours we had before we were to be taken to the airport and ended up going into the baby kangaroo rescue centre and oh my God those little babies are so damn cute!! They had 9 Joeys there that had been rescued after their mothers had been killed on the roads...these 2 people running the centre were doing such an amazing job looking after all these Joeys..they have to literally keep them with them all the time, becoming their surrogate mother until they're old enough to leave the pouches and go around on their own. Some of the older ones were hopping around our feet and lying in the sun..loved it and could have styed there for ages but unfortunately had a plane to catch :S
Anyway arrived in Cairns and this place is amazing!! Very humid though..kinda smacks you as you step off the plane but hey ho...i'm not gonna start complaining..its sunny and hot so its all good :D Seriously though this place is really cool...a bit touristy but it has such a good feel to the place that you instantly feel at home here..and all the shops are open really late which makes me happy!! They have this really cool lagoon (as there's no beach here at all) where everyone heads, it has outside grills for you to cook on and a free outdoor pool right along the sea front so definately spending more time there. Last night we stayed at this hostel called Gilligans which is by far the best hostel I have ever seen! Its a converted hotel and is HUGH but has the best rooms and ensuits so worth the extra you have to pay. We had to move to another hostel for the next few days as they were fully booked but our new ones good as well and right on the Esplanada next to the lagoon so no complaints from me. Hopefully we'll be going up to Cape Tribulation and Port Douglas for just over a week in a few days and then its back to Cairns so we can start planning to meet Jo in Townsville...hope your preparing yourself lady!!!
Not much else to report really...just spent the day at the lagoon and getting our bearings..its a really good place to walk around so just been doing that and trying not to get lost! Hehe but we've managed so far..i bet your all so proud (and surprised!!). Glad to hear everythings good at home..we'll probably update when we decide what we're doing next. Love you all....Em xxx
