OMG - did I say the Meseta was flat and monotonous - did I ignore Catherine Mary’s advise to wear bike pants - do we have sore butts - YES YES YES - and NO, day 1 of the Meseta is NOT FLAT!
But we made it to Boadilla - 65k and I don’t think I could’ve done 66!
There was a lot of on/off bike movement but I think my “Spirited Women” and Veitch family would have been proud of us.
We stopped a couple of times for coffee and the usual jamon and cheese baguette and of course a church visit in Castrojeriz.
The icing on the cake today is our accommodation in Boadilla. It is so comfortable and has everything a pilgrim needs including cold beer and a delicious almond cake.
The village itself is like a ghost town and it seems the only business around is the hotel and Albergue which are two in one.
All Villages offer a Pilgrim meal. It consists of 3 courses and red wine and tonight’s meal was €10 each. It is a wonderful thing and a great way to connect with other Pilgrims. Tonight, lentil soup, beef casserole with salad, a bottle of red wine between 4, or 2 if your lucky! And for dessert a ice cream ice block.
Tonight we met Andrea from Austria, Bernadette from Sydney, 2 French guys.
It’s 8pm and we are shattered. Hopefully I won’t be waking at 0230!
Breakfast €10
Lunch €3.80
Dinner €20
Bed €50
Buenos noches xx
