Day 323 (Thursday 23rd October 08)
Left Foster early and made our way to Wilsons Promontory National Park. A long drive once through the gate to Tidal River, the visitors area. Saw some wild emus and a kangaroo on the way. Paid for our day at The Prom and then went up to the car park for the walk up Mount Oberon. Steep, long walk up but the view was well worth it. Met a nice older couple at the top and chatted for a while. Made our way back down, which was a lot easier! Decided to go for the Lilli Pilli Gully walk so drove onto the next car park and set off again. Enjoyed the amazing rainforest and another steep climb up Mount Bishop. Very tired by the end and also very very hungry! Cooked up some food when we got back to Hoki Poki and tried to avoid all the flies that were attacking us! Set off for Squeaky beach which meant more walking. Very impressive beach, amazingly white sand. It was then onto Whisky beach where on the way down to the beach we encountered a big brown snake inches from Em's feet. Em screamed and ran off which is the total opposite of what you are supposed to do, the screaming is fine but you are meant to stand still! Mark stood trying to film it but luckily it went off into the bushes. Unluckily Mark didn't get any footage of it. Carried on down to the beach with Em wanting to go back to Hoki Poki! Luckily made it back without anymore incidents after seeing the beach. It was by now getting quite late in the day so motored up to Korumburra where we pitched up for the night.
