Well after an emotional and stressful day yesterday I finally made it to New Zealand - what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger right?!
So after a bad nights sleep (what kind of crazy people run up and down the corridor at 4 in the morning shouting and laughing?) I finally escaped that dreaded hostel (I've stayed in my fair share of bad hostels but 12 bed dorms and unisex bathrooms was just the worst) and waited for the kiwi experience bus to pick me and others up.
The big green bus comes along (subtlety isn't new Zealand's style apparently) and we all get on. The bus driver is really nice and explains all about the kiwi experience as we drive along. We have two stops along the way, one of them there's a supermarket so we can buy food for dinner - I joined up with some of the others and we decided to make spaghetti carbonara. After those stops we drove to the holiday camp by Hot Water Beach, that we stayed in tonight in dorm rooms, and put our bags there. Then the driver drove us to a spot where we had to walk down to a beach called Cathedral Cove but it was definitely worth it for the views! After we had relaxed there for a bit and walked back up again we were driven back to the camp and we all cooked dinner. After dinner we walked (in the dark using the torches on our phones) to the beach by the camp where the hot water pools were. It was so cool! You dig a hole and all the hot water comes up from the sand. It was so strange like having a bath but on the beach! It was so warm there was even steam coming up from the water. Whilst we were there we could also see all the stars in the sky and the Milky Way! So beautiful.
After we got back to camp we just had the option to chill or watch the rugby match (New Zealand vs Wales) and then it was bedtime ready for another early start tomorrow! Got to be on the bus by half 7 in the morning - fun times! Speak soon x
