What a day!! So this morning those of us that stayed in a hostel got picked up at 9 and then we had the choice of 3 things to do; pay to see some geothermal activity in the area, go on a free walk through Red Woods or walk around the shops for a bit. I chose to do the free walk with another girl so we got dropped off along with some others and went for quite a nice walk. The trees were pretty cool (well as cool as trees can be). Around midday we were all reunited again on the bus and made our way onto the next place. Our first stop we got out and watched this mud pool that had strange bubbles of mud popping up every now and then - it was so weird! After that, on our next stop, the 5 of us that were doing a skydive got picked up in a limo (very fancy!) and driven to the airport where the skydive was. We all sat in a room and watched examples of other people's skydive to see which camera we wanted on our skydive and a safety video. Up until that point I had been feeling calm and excited but then I think it hit me so I felt slightly nervous. After that we picked the music we wanted for our video and then it was time to put the lovely attractive jumpsuit on and the beautiful hats that made us look like egg-heads. My instructor (the fact he was good looking definitely helped calm my nerves a bit lol) then had a quick interview with me for the video and then it was time to go! As I was the only one jumping from 12,000 ft (everyone else was jumping from 15,000) I was the last one in the plane (first one out). The plane started up and off we went! The views were amazing!! All too soon we had reached the right height and it was time to jump. It all happened so quickly! I swung my legs out of the plane (into the freezing cold) leant my head back and then we were out and falling through the sky! It was such a surreal moment and feeling! After about 40 seconds of free fall the parachute went up and we slowed down. I was finally able to enjoy the views around me which were incredible. There was a huge lake and a mountain in the distance covered in snow. It was so nice just to chill in the sky and have a look around. I felt sorry for my instructor though having to listen to me waffle on about anything and everything for the time we were up there haha. We did a few spins which I wasn't that keen about - made me feel slightly dizzy - and he let me control the parachute as well. Eventually we made it to the ground and I got to take the attractive jumpsuit off. Then got to choose my free skydive tshirt and pay for my skydive (may not be able to afford to eat anymore but it was totally worth it!). Afterwards I watch the others land and then we went to a small cinema room and watched our skydive videos. We all sat there crying with laughter watching everyone's reactions and faces in the wind - funniest thing ever! Once the limo brought us to our hostel we had time to relax for a bit and then some of us treated ourselves to a dominos pizza. In the evening most of our group along with our bus driver, met in the hostel bar and we all chatted, played some pool (still need some more practice) and had a laugh! I went to try and leave at 11 but our bus driver caught me sneaking out and said I shouldn't be boring and that he would buy me a free drink if I stayed out longer. Well I can't turn down a free drink can I?! Although that drink turned into 4 shots and a large pint of god knows what cocktail combination and he told everyone else if I tried sneaking out they had to bring me back and they would get a free shot haha. Drinking games in New Zealand are lethal! Finally managed to escape at 1am after falling asleep on a sofa. But what kind of bar has very comfy sofas in front of a fireplace in it?! Had a good night though even if I am feeling a tiny bit delicate this morning! Definitely won't forget today for a long time though - still can't quite believe I did a skydive! Speak soon x
