This morning we dropped off our polo and took a transfer to the border between South africa and Mozambique. We gave ourselves close to three hours to get through the border, it turned out to be a wise decision. After breezing through the South African exit we got in line to purchase a visa into Mozambique. The wait was about half an hour but eventually they took our forms, picture, fingerprints, our passports and US$82. We waited and waited. The line grew and those waiting in it grew restless all trying to push infront of each other. Eventually a local told us we needed to get to the front of the line otherwise we would be forgotten. By this stage we had been at the border almost 3 hours. I (Michael) pushed to the front, then thought if we still have to wait whats the point. Lets go back to South Africa, I started my journey to push back through the crowd for Ellas opinion. As I started to do this the lady come out with a handful of passports of which I could see the two blue Australian ones. With our freshly stamped passports we set about finding our bus. It shouldve come through about 20minutes earlier but we hadnt seen it. Some difficult conversations with the Portugese speaking police it seemed our bus didnt exist. Luckily a nice Portugese family offered to share their van to maputo. Just as we were about to leave the border our bus turned up some 1.5hrs late. We made it to Maputo by our planned method in typical African fashion and on African time.
