This morning I hired a scooter called Boris and he and I went off exploring. Sadly he got lost - well and truly lost in fact we ended up on the main highway to Hanoi. I am really glad I know how to ride a motorbike and have ridden one in Cambodia. Anyway we turned around came off the high way and I discovered google will tell me where to go even off line and in Vietnam- I love technology!!
We found our way to Hoà Lu, which is the ancient capital of Vietnam. I parked Boris walked around and then had to buy a coconut to get him released. I then drove to Trang An and enjoyed a fabulous boat trip through 9 caves. We got off the boat for three temples and for one I had already climbed 400 steps when a woman said you have to climb down and then back up after seeing the temple - we both decided enough temples had been seen and went down without seeing it.
I then had lunch and google told me how to get to Mua Cave - off I went. When I arrived I discovered it wasn’t a cave but a mountain with a view point on top. I had driven past 5 people saying you must park here and two women on bikes followed me. We finally came to the site to discover the official parking space and they waited for me so that we could climb together. At the top I realised it was the same woman who told me about the temple!!
We had a great couple of hours together, a cup of ginger tea and then I sped off on Boris and they - looking very tired - climbed on to their bikes.
