dzasta travels
I booked the flights back in October. At the time when I booked,on line, I was given a confirmation number and it said to print the ticket. I dont have a printer so I saved the page into my favourites intending to put it on a stick and get my friend to print it. I did this for all 3 flights and when I came to get the info they had timed out and no info available. I was going to email Tiger airways but they have no email, you have to write to them in Singapore. I did that and they say to wait for at least 21 days for an answer. That was 5 months ago and still no answer. Yesterday I had a brain wave and checked out my bank statement and the payments had the confirmations on them so I was able to get my friend to print the tickets.
Vietnam does not have Visa at the border so it has to be arranged before you go. I could have got one from the embassy in Canberra, by sending passport. The best way is pre arranged visa. I used "My Vietnam Visa" and they arrange the visa and send an approval letter. This is enough to get me on the plane and I get stamp when I arrive in Vietnam.
The plan is to fly to Saigon spend a week there and the Mekong delta, a week travel north through Danang, Hue and Hoi an, then cross into Laos for a week and exit into the north of Vietnam for a week in the mountains at Sapa and down to Hanoi. Fly from Hanoi to Singapore for 3 days before I come home.
I will post again when I get there.
Lucky I got the itinerary cos when I got to Perth airport they wanted it with my passport and visa. I asked the guy checking me in and he said they could have refused me to travel without it. Having said that, they did not ask for it in Singapore. Because I had no check in luggage they check weighed my hand luggage and let me off with point 6 of a Kg overweight.
Singapore airport in like all the low cost airports in Asia. you have to walk down the steps and across the tarmac. I arrived at 3am and it was beautiful and warm and that familiar smell of Asia, it was great.
The visa was pretty slack. I only half filled out the form and they handed over the visa. It only took about 10 min and very painless. I changed $100 into 2.1 million dong...Im struggling with the huge numbers. I was just quoted 40,000 for a hat.. thats $2 so Im go buy it. Its a keeper.
The taxi crooks at the airport thought I was a newbie and were quoting $20 to $25 for a taxi to my hotel. I got it for $7 just by walking away and negotiating with a reasonable guy.

Ngaere Sounds wonderful. If you want an interesting place in Laos - Luang Prabrang is good. Van Vieng is more interesting - join the loads of drunk back packers after rafting along the river. You don't have to be drunk but there are plenty of hostels to stay in. Local bus rides are good.
Danny Jeez, you got a good friend to help you out like that. :)Hope you have a great trip.
