dzasta travels
We left Hakuba this morning backpacker style. We had a hotel booked in Tokyo and no way to get there. I had looked into it and had a plan but nothing booked.
We walked to the information ctr and caught the bus to Nagano, luckily it dropped us off at the train station. Bought a ticket on the bullit (shinkansen) to Tokyo. Once in Tokyo we had to negotiate the metro. As it turned out this wasnt too hard. I found an information booth and the lady wrote down directions for us. Take one line to Shibuya then change to another to Hatagaya. I had walking directions from here and it is only about 5min walk so easy to get around.
Shibuya was interesting. The station is actually 6 stations cos 6 lines conect there. It is one of the busiest stations in the world, 3.6mil people use it EVERY DAY.We walked for about 1/2 hour to get from one train to the next.
The hotel is interesting. I have stayed in a smaller room in Mongolia but I payed about a 10th of the price. If you walk into the room you have to back out cos there is not enough room to turn around. I am gonna try to get a tape to measure the bath room, I think it is smaller than 2mtr X 2mtr. You have to get out to press the button cos there in no room. There is a 'bath' sink and toilet cramed in there. The place is clean, just small. I dont know where they get the pics they posted on the net.
Tonight we went for a look around Shinjuku. This is what the kids expected of Japan. Neon light everywhere, mega shopping malls and people EVERYWHERE. One thing we have noticed, for a country so advenced and so into neon and electricity they have very few escalators. Ash and I are really having a struggle with our dodgy knees.
It is very hot here in Tokyo. Today got to about 20 and will be a few deg warmer tomorrow. At night it cools down quite a bit so we took jackets tonight and were for ever putting them on and off. It is cool outside and hot inside and boiling on the metro. I have noticed this everywhere they keep the undreground hot so you gotta rug up to get there then strip off when you get on the train.
I measured the bath room...1200 X 1800. There is a bath, with shower, sink and toilet in there.
