dzasta travels
I was at a loose end so I decided to do a rampart walk. You can walk around the top of the wall from Jaffa gate to Damascus gate. Well I timed it so I would be done by 3 to miss the march at 4.
Today is Jerusalem day and the Palestinians plan to march through the city at 4. The Israeli's are not going to let that happen. So when I get to the gate the Israeli's are dancing and singing and blocking the way through. There is a line of cops between them trying to keep the peace. The Palestinians started to get mouthy so the cops tried to arrest one and it was on. Cops ca,me from everywhere. they put up barricades. It was going off. I tried to keep far enough away to be out of the action but close enough to see. After a few skirmishes the cops decided to clear the plaza. The fights continued up the street. Some boys sat near me and before I knew it I was surrounded by boys and I thought this is not good so I got up and moved away. Within a minute the cops were there moving the boys along so lucky I did move.
From what I saw they are BOTH wrong. The Israeli's for blocking the way and the Palestinians then provoked it. They all had a chance to let it go and ALL kept baiting each other. It looks more like a religious fight than ethnic to me.
Im going back to watch some more. I havnt had this much fun since Bishkek.
Before you sheilas go off, I am safely back in my room and going to bed early cos I have to be on the bus at 7 tomorrow morning. There wasn't much action tonight because there were thousands of Israeli's, I mean seriously thousands. The cops were gearing up for a long night so it might hot up when the Israeli's thin out a bit. I walked to the Palestinian side to get something to eat and have a look then had to wait 1/2hr before they would let me back.

Ngaere You are right - they are BOTH at fault. Good vantage point for your photos. Where are you OFF to tomorrow? Stay safe :)
