The Mursi are the tribe most people come to see. They are the most outrageous. They put on their ceremonial gear for the tourists and charge 5birr per photo. They are uneducated but they can all count camera clicks and multiply by 5 with perfect accuracy. With a few tourists in the village it turns into a circus with everyone pushing and shoving to get their photo taken. I met one of the tribal elders who had been to Sydney and studied linguistics and he is trying to put their language into print so they can start some schooling for the kids.
One of the girls had a mobile phone and I asked how she charged it cos there is no power here. I was told she charges it in the car on the way to and from town.
