USA Travels
Up this morning and off to see good old Ho Chi Min. Been dead for years but still a hero, large as life in a box although his wish was for cremation and to be scattered in the Mekong. I have to say the old boy didn't look too good. I THOUGHT IT WAS QUITE A GOOD LIKENESS! Ruth and I were ordered to remove our hats and take our hands out of our pockets. We had to walk two by two along a line and all got barked at. Pity they can't have the same effect on the traffic. IT REMINDED ME OF WHEN I WAS AT SCHOOL GOING TO ASSEMBLY -THE PREFECTS WERE JUST THE SAME. You can't walk the pavements for parked scooters and hawkers. Nobody takes any notice of crossings or lights. The sound of horns is constant. Our advice was to imagine you were taking a stroll in your garden and leisurely wander across. Although we saw this approach many times to great effect, we could not quite bring ourselves to do it. We did get better as the day went on though with one of our party standing in the middle of the road while taking a picture more or less leaning on a car as he did it. Had a good wander about in the rain around midday and went to the Water Puppet Theatre this afternoon before returning to beer corner for the obvious. THEY DID RUN OUT LAST NIGHT THOUGH AFTER ALL DAVID IS IN TOWN! The meal tonight will be sad as we say goodbye to some of the group who go on to do other things but we will also be welcoming others who will join us.
